There once was a boy named Bill.
One day when Bill was walking home from school, he heard a noise coming from the bushes. He went over to see what it was. Behind a bush, he found a black and white dog caught in a trap.
Bill hurried home with the dog and showed his parents. Bill's dad said the dog had a broken leg.
They brought the dog to the vet in the family station wagon. On the way, Bill's parents decided that Bill could keep the dog if they couldn't find the owner.
When they arrived, the vet put a cast on the dog's leg. He also told Bill that she was going to have puppies!
The next day, Bill posted signs around his neighborhood that said, "Found: Dog - Black and White," and listed his phone number for the owner to call.
Two days later, Bill received a call from the owner of the dog. The owner thanked Bill for taking such good care of his dog. When the owner came to pick up his dog, he said Bill could have one of the puppies. Bill was so excited!
Bill built a doghouse and bought some new dog bones to get ready for his new puppy - Rosco.
Finally, Bill received his new puppy. Rosco was the best dog in the whole world, and Bill was very, very happy.
